Conversation in the Dark
By: Koneko-chan
Discription:Misty adn Ash area awake at night and they have a strange
conversation.
Genre:Romance is the only one it fits in...I think and there isn't much of
that either.
Cerulean eyes stared into the cloak of night that hung above in the sky,
admiring the brilliant stars shining in the distance. The night was quiet,
the only sounds being the natural music of night and the soft rustling of
leaves and grass.
Shuffling sounds broke through the symphony of the night. She turned to
look at her companion. "Ash…" Warm chocolate brown eyes met tranquil
cerulean pools. "Oh, Misty…did I wake you up?" "No…What are you doing up so
late?" "I couldn't sleep…and you?"
Misty thought for a moment. Why was she awake? "I don't know…I guess I'm
just not tired." "Oh…" Silence. They both lay in their sleeping bags
staring at the beautiful night sky in silence.
Ahs turned slightly to look at his companion. She looked so different when
she wasn't angry and screaming. Just lying there in complete silence with
her face illuminated by the moon and stars. She looked beautiful…almost
otherworldly.
He sighed mentally and went back to staring at the sky. Why he always had
such thought he didn't know. Why he liked her he didn't know. But
sometimes those thoughts and feelings seriously annoyed him.
"Ash." He turned slightly to look at her, slightly surprised by the sound
of his voice breaking into the silence of the night. He looked at Misty,
who was still staring at the stars above. "Do you think you'll ever become
a pokemon master?" "Of course!" "How can you be so sure?" "Are you saying I
can't do it!?" "That's not what I mean…it's just that you're so sure…don't
you ever doubt?"
Ash thought about that. Why was he sure? He wasn't. As confident as he
seemed he wasn't sure. He did doubt but he wasn't about to admit that to
Misty…or anyone else. "Where there's a will there's a way!"
A gentle smile touched her pale face. "I suppose." She looked so beautiful
when she smiled. More silence.
Why did she ask him?
"Why do you ask?" She turned to look at him perhaps stunned by the sudden
intrusion to of his voice in the silent night. "I don't know. Just curious
I guess." They looked at each other for a few moments before Ash
turned…blushing. He was thankful that the darkness probably hid his flaming
cheeks.
"What about you?" "Huh?" Ash turned towards Misty and asked again, "What do
you want to be, what do you dream? Do you seriously want to be the greatest
pokemon everything? Or is there something else?"
She looked at him absolutely bewildered. "Why do you ask?" "Just curious.
You didn't answer my question." "What does everyone want?" "Huh? I dunno…"
"Happiness, a home, family, friends…you know that sort of thing." He
frowned not quite understanding. "I don't exactly dream of being famous or
anything. Something simple and comfortable…that's all I ask. I want to
live near or by the sea, find someone I like, and live a simple life.
Nothing complicated."
Ash still looked at her uncomprehendingly. "Then why do you say you want to
be the greatest pokemon everything?" She laughed softly, like the gentle
tinkling of bells. Sweet and gentle. "Doesn't it sound better than 'I want
to a normal life and find someone that I like'? That sounds cheesy if you
ask me…I'm kinda tired. Good night Ash…you should rest too or else tomorrow
your eyes will be as narrow as Brocks."
He lay there thinking about their strange conversation. He didn't quite
understand what she meant. He looked at the slumbering girl. She looked
beautiful right now. So calm and peaceful. She was so different sometimes.
Sometimes she was loud and obnoxious but at times like tonight she was so
silent. She was so puzzling. But perhaps that was why he liked her. He
wasn't simple and common like the everyday girls that he sees. She seems so
deep and sensitive when she lets herself talk to people like that. That was
the true Misty.
Eventually the soft even breaths coming from the sleeping form lulled him to
sleep….

…Only to be awaken way to early.
"Gah! I'm too tired! Let me sleep!" "I told you."
